Video Discussions

Starting July 1, 2024, the Flip platform will no longer be available in mobile app stores, and the Flip website will transition to view-only mode. Users will still have access to download existing Flip videos until September 30, 2024. Learn more. 

Video and Text-Based Discussion Options 

Flip has moved a portion of its core features inside of Teams for Education and will no longer be available as an independent website or app. Below are a list of alternatives.    

Option 1: Text-Based Discussion Board  

Asynchronous communication using the Blackboard Discussion Board 

  1. Convert current Flip prompts to writing text-based discussion boards in Blackboard. 

    • Blackboard Original Course View - Students will have no visual or audio element in this option.  

    • Blackboard Ultra Course View - Students will have visual and audio elements available.

Possible Student Instructions: 

Follow the instructions below to complete your assignment. 

  1. Review the [Rubric]. 

  2. [Prompt] 

  3. Select "Reply" to create a post. In your post, [Prompt]:   

    1. [Prompt] 

  4. Select "Submit." 

  5. Read your classmates' responses. Respond to at least two of your classmates' posts. Responses need to be a paragraph in length. Use the ABC method. 

    1. Acknowledge their post. 

    2. Build upon their post. 

    3. Critique their post. 

Option 2: Video Presentations within Blackboard Discussion Boards  

  1. Convert current Flip prompts to the text-based discussion boards in Blackboard.  

  2. However, students can use various screen-capturing/ video recording tools to record their video prompts.

How do I record with this site/tool?

  1. Students will then share the link to their video within the discussion board.  

  2. Students will then be able to view each other’s videos and reply using the Blackboard discussion board features.  

Possible Student Instructions  

  1. For this assignment, you will [prompt]. Refer to the Course Schedule for the due date. 

  2. You can use one of the below screen-capturing video recording tools to record your presentation, or you may use one of your own.  

  3. Assignment Instructions: 

    1. Review the [rubric] for grading criteria. 

    2. Draft your video and assignment. 

    3. Experiment with your screen-capturing tool of choice. 

    4. Record your presentation. 

    5. Save your presentation as “yourname-presentation”. 

    6. Share the link to your presentation in the discussion board by selecting the title above. When copying the share link, be sure to set access to “anyone with the link”.
