Work Offline with the Ultra Gradebook

Working offline with the Ultra Gradebook allows instructors to manage grades within Excel and then upload those grade columns to the Gradebook for students to view. Working offline also allows instructors to save the Gradebook for recordkeeping purposes.

Download Grades

Follow these steps to download a copy of the Gradebook for your records or to work with grades in Excel:

  1. Open your course, and select the Gradebook tab at the top of the page.

  2. In the top right hand area of the gradebook, click the Download Gradebook button. It looks like a box with an arrow pointing down towards the bottom.

  3. In the panel that opens, select any columns you’d like to download by clicking the checkboxes next to the column names.

  4. Select the file type Comma Separated Values (.csv).

  5. Adjust any other options to your liking.

  6. Click Download.

Instructors who plan to record grades outside of Blackboard should still download the Gradebook. The downloaded Gradebook includes important information about student data that ensures the grades are associated with the correct students.


Upload Grades

Follow these steps to upload grade columns created in Excel:

  1. Save the Excel spreadsheet containing your grades as a CSV file.

  2. In your Ultra course, click on the Gradebook tab at the top of the page.

  3. In the top right hand area of the gradebook, click the Upload Gradebook button. It looks like a box with an arrow pointing upwards out of the top.

  4. Within the Upload Gradebook panel that opens, select Upload Local File. Find and select the CSV file you saved, and click Open. You can also drag and drop the file into the designated panel.

  5. After you upload a file, a list of errors appears if you've made changes that adversely affect the gradebook. You're also notified about invalid usernames. Select View Error Details to learn more.

  6. The panel will show the list of columns added or changed based on the file you uploaded. Clear the checkboxes for any data you want to exclude from the upload.

  7. When you’re ready to submit the changes, click Upload.
