What happens in Blackboard when a user is removed from a course?

Enrollment data, like instructor assignments and student enrollments, is automatically sent from Banner to Blackboard. For example, when a student drops a course in myBama, the student’s access to a course should automatically change in Blackboard. When an instructor is unassigned from a course in Banner, the instructor’s access to a course should automatically change in Blackboard.

Student

When a student drops a course from their schedule in myBama, their access to the Blackboard course is disabled. This means:

  • The student does not have access to the course in Blackboard, nor will they be able to see the course in their Blackboard course list.

  • The student does not appear in the Blackboard course’s Roster and the Blackboard course’s Gradebook.

  • The student’s submissions and Blackboard course activity are not available to the instructor.

    • A Blackboard administrator can access and view the student’s course activity upon request.

Contact CIT if a student is registered for a course but cannot access it in Blackboard.

Instructor

When an instructor is removed from a course in Banner, their access to the course is disabled. This means:

  • The instructor does not have access to the course in Blackboard, nor will they be able to see the course in their Blackboard course list.

  • Any changes the instructor made to the course content will remain in the course.

    • If the instructor is assigned to a different course, or section, the content does not move to the Blackboard course automatically.

Contact CIT if an instructor needs access to a Blackboard course.
