Manually assign grades from the grid view of the Gradebook

Before the Gradebook update in August 2026, instructors could click inside a cell in the Gradebook to edit the value. Now, instructors must click the pen icon to make the column’s values editable.

Instructions

Manually assign multiple grades in a single column:

  1. Open the grid view of the Gradebook in your course.

  2. Find the column you want to enter grades into.

  3. Hover the mouse in the space between the column header and the first cell.

  4. Select the pen icon that appears to make the column values editable.

  5. While the column values are editable, the cells will be outlined in purple, and you will see a checkmark at the top of the column.

  6. When you’re finished making changes, select the checkmark, use the Escape key on your keyboard, or click anywhere outside of the column.

This will only work for grade columns. Calculated columns cannot be manually changed.
