Managing Data

What’s happens to all the data you’ve imported into Slate?

Post-Data Import

After the import has completed, Action buttons will appear in the source file's upload page:

Append Values

The initial upload of a data file may not contain the values for all the fields and prompts mapped in Slate. When a future import does contain a value, the record’s null prompt value will be replaced with the imported prompt value.

But what happens if a value does exist and doesn’t need to be replaced?

When a future import contains “additional” prompt values, you can tell Slate to keep both by using the Append Values button, in the lower right corner of the Prompt Value Mapping dialog.

Append Values enables future source values to be mapped and imported. When you can predict and map, accordingly, there may not be a need to return to Prompt Value Mappings each time a new source value will be imported.

How-To: Append Values

  1. Navigate to Database > Upload Dataset > select desired source format > Prompt Value Mappings.

  2. Select Append Values and add any or all possible source values that could be imported for a field in the future. Slate will eliminate any duplicate values that already exist in Slate.

  3. Be sure to add only one value per line.

  4. Once added, select Append and continue to map these newly added data points as appropriate.
