Instructor of Record

If you are not the Instructor of Record, you may not automatically see the course in Blackboard.

If you are a new instructor at UA, or a new instructor for the course, the paperwork for your course assignment may not be in the system yet.

  • Check with your departmental administrators to make sure you are the instructor of record for the course.

  • You may also check with the Registrar’s Office to confirm you are the instructor of record

Course Creation

Blackboard courses are not always created at the time the course is created in Banner (the student information system).

  • Check the Courses tab in Blackboard, under the correct semester, to see if your course is present.

    • Semester Code = the year + the semester
Example: 202210 is the spring of 2022

Upcoming Courses

A course that is not in an active term may not appear on the Current Courses page – that is, it will be classified by the system as "upcoming."

UA Online (distance) courses are listed as Upcoming until the first day of classes.

  • Browse by term. Move between past, current, and upcoming courses using system-defined terms. At the bottom of the list, you'll find a page selector to navigate through long lists.

  • Change the filter. Click on down arrow next to the Current Courses title to switch to another term. If you navigate to another page, all courses show again.

  • Search your list. The search function finds courses on the current page that match your search term.

Hidden Courses

Check for hidden courses on the Courses page in Blackboard.

  1. Click on the down arrow next to the Current Courses title to use a filter.

  2. Select Hidden from me.

  3. When you find your course, point to its course card menu (...) on the far right.

  4. Select Show course

Downtime or Service Disruption

You could be trying to access your course on Blackboard when it is offline for scheduled maintenance or an unexpected service interruption.

Offline for maintenance

We schedule maintenance and inform users before Blackboard is unavailable. The splash page will show a “Scheduled Maintenance” message. For more information, check:

Unexpected service interruption

If Blackboard is offline unexpectedly, you will see a “Service Interruption” message. For more information:
