Hypothesis & Access Granted e-books

Instructors at the University of Alabama are now able to create Hypothesis assignments in their LMS using documents from VitalSource’s extensive collection of texts and ebooks. VitalSource is the digital materials provider for the Access Granted program through the SupeStore.

Instructions

Access VitalSource

  1. In Blackboard, on the course menu, choose Tool Panel.

  2. In the Tool Panel, choose Access Granted. This will open Vital Source.

The book(s) you will be using should already have been assigned to your course and visible in the VitalSource portal.

Find the VitalSource Bookshelf URL of the text you will be assigning

  1. In VitalSource, open your VitalSource bookshelf by clicking Launch Bookshelf.

  2. Navigate to your Library page.

  3. Find the book you will be assigning and click the View details button for that text

  4. On the Details sidebar, locate and copy the URL for the text. You will use this URL later when you create the Hypothesis assignment in your LMS.

Create Hypothesis assignment in the LMS

  1. Create a Hypothesis assignment.

  2. When you are at the step where you choose a source for the Hypothesis assignment, click Select book from VitalSource.

3. Paste the VitalSource text URL you located earlier. After entering the URL, hit Enter. Hypothesis will indicate that it can access the text by showing the book title and a thumbnail of the cover.
4. Click Select book.
5. Next, choose the location you want your students to begin reading from. This will be the page of the text that the Hypothesis assignment will open to when the assignment is loaded.
6. Click Select after choosing the start location for this assignment.

Finish creating, configuring, and publishing the assignment in your LMS as usual.
