Submitting a Turnitin assignment as an instructor.

If you’d like to submit a test a submission to a Turnitin assignment, OR, if you’re a graduate student needing to check your papers or journal submissions for plagiarism, you can do so by requesting a practice course from the CIT and then following the steps below.

Instructions

In your practice course:

  1. Create a Turnitin assignment.
Steps on this process can be found in this KB article: How do I create a new Turnitin assignment?

  2. Click on the Enter Student Preview mode icon

There should be a confirmation banner at the top of the screen indicating that you’ve successfully entered student preview mode.

  3. In Student Preview mode, navigate to the appropriate Turnitin assignment.

  4. Click on the assignment link to open it. Then select the Upload Submission button. Follow the prompts to submit your file.

  5. Click the “X” button in the purple box located in upper left hand side of your Blackboard course screen. This exits the course and allows you to reopen the course on the Course Home Page.

While will see the option to exit student preview mode from the Turnitin assignment screen, this will open a tiny window within the Turnitin assignment screen which will make it very difficult to successfully exit student preview mode.

Once you’ve exited the course, reopen the course and exit student preview mode from the course home screen.

6. Click the Exit Preview button in the top right of your course to return to Instructor view.
This will open a popup box with some options, choose the second option “Keep the preview user and all data”, then click continue.

7. You should now be able to access the similarity report for the uploaded document. Additionally, future submissions can be done from the instructor view by opening the Turnitin assignment and selecting the “submit on behalf of student” option.
